In our Jazz classes this term, we have been working on our kicks. To do this, we have been using skipping ropes. We fold a skipping rope in half and hold it tight about our head with arms in line with ears.

The first exercise is to do this on the floor. Core must be on (belly button pulling in to spine to keep lower back on the floor). And then we practice kicks on the right leg, and then left. We look for straight knees and pointed toes.

Then we try the exercise down the room from corner to corner. We bend on each step and then as we kick, both knees must be straight. Again, we look for beautifully pointed toes. And straight backs are important to.

These exercises have helped the students and made it a bit fun by using a prop!
