There are many different ways that balance comes into dance. Arabesques and Pirouettes in Ballet, leg mounts in Jazz, Tap steps, freezes in Hip Hop, just to name a few steps. Balance is a massive part of dance so here are a few general things to consider when working on balance…
- Use your core and engage the muscles.
- Find a focus spot. Find a spot to keep your eyes on that is in front of you (something that isn’t moving).
- Don’t look down to the floor.
- Make sure you continue to breathe.
- Foot grounded. Picture 3 red dots – one on the heel and two on either side of the ball of your foot. These dots make a triangle. Then picture pressing this triangle into the floor.
- Keep growing taller and longer in the movement.
