There are many different ways that balance comes into dance. Arabesques and Pirouettes in Ballet, leg mounts in Jazz, Tap steps, freezes in Hip Hop, just to name a few steps. Balance is a massive part of dance so here are a few general things to consider when working on balance…

  1. Use your core and engage the muscles.
  2. Find a focus spot. Find a spot to keep your eyes on that is in front of you (something that isn’t moving).
  3. Don’t look down to the floor.
  4. Make sure you continue to breathe.
  5. Foot grounded. Picture 3 red dots – one on the heel and two on either side of the ball of your foot. These dots make a triangle. Then picture pressing this triangle into the floor.
  6. Keep growing taller and longer in the movement.
